Allan Quatermain (Richard Chamberlain) comes to the aid of Jessie (Sharon Stone) in search of her kidnapped archaeologist father. Col. Bockner (Herbert Lom) has formed an alliance with Dogati (John Rhys-Davies), and they have performed the kidnapping in an effort to extract the secret of where the legendary King Solomon's mines are located. Determined, but not knowing what the future holds, Quatermain and Jessie set off across Africa in their search of Jessie's father and the lost mines. There is a sequel: "Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold."

Set in the heart of Africa, this is the story of an expedition headed by Allan Quatermain (Stewart Granger) and Elizabeth Curtis (Deborah Kerr) in search of Elizabeth's missing husband and lost diamond mines. Along the way, they fight cannibals and wild animals, and, while Allan is not happy at first to have Elizabeth accompanying him on the quest, they do fall in love.
