| | Powerful domestic study | Mairona 11/27/2011 | | Dodsworth, the film, is uniquely true to both the text & spirit of author Sinclair Lewis(a feat rarely found in a transfer from book to play to film). Mary Astor is outstanding in her portrayal of Edith Cortright and Maria Ourspenskaya gives a commanding aura in her minute role as Baroness von Obersdorf. The entire acting company is commendable; stage sets and scenery true to period; music memorable. The story line is as applicable to 2011 as it was when released in 1936. |
