  Irish Republican Army volunteer Fergus (Stephen Rea) is assigned to guard kidnapped British soldier Jody (Forest Whitaker). As time passes, the two become friends, and after a British attack, Fergus runs to London where the plot twists and turns. Academy Award nominations were received for Best Picture, Actor, Director, Supporting Actor (Jaye Davidson), and Film Editing. An Oscar was won for Best Writing.
