Wendy (Laura Linney) and Jon (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the grown children of their abusive father Lenny (Philip Bosco), learn that Lenny is suffering from dementia and is dying. They fly to Arizona and bring Lenny back home to Buffalo where Wendy and Jon reunite under one roof for the first time since childhood and are forced to reconcile past differences in order to deal with their father's impending death. The film received two Academy Award nominations including Best Actress (Linney).
