Former military investigator Hank Deerfield (Tommy Lee Jones) heads to Fort Rudd, New Mexico, after he and his wife Joan (Susan Sarandon) learn that their Iraq War veteran son Mike (Jonathan Tucker) has gone AWOL. The search is frustrating because of lack of cooperation from local police. But, when Mike's charred corpse is found in a New Mexico field, Hank gets aid from police detective Emily Sanders (Charlize Theron) in his effort to uncover the truth behind Mike's untimely death. Jones received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
