Frankie Paige's (Patricia Arquette) grandmother sent her a rosary from Brazil, and soon after Frankie suffers from puncture wounds in both wrists. Then other wounds appear, and word spreads to Rome. The Vatican sends an investigator of miracles, Father Andrew Kiernan (Gabriel Byrne) to look into the matter, and as more evidence comes to light, he begins to suspect a diabolical phenomenon is taking place.
