John Malkovich plays feeble-minded Lennie who is in need of support and protection by his friend George (Gary Sinise). They find work at a ranch in the San Joaquin Valley, but the foreman, Curley (Casey Siemaszko), torments Lennie, and Curley's wife (Sherilyn Fenn) flirts with Lennie—all of which leads to a tragic end.
