The crime fighters consisted of Max Hoover (Nick Nolte), Ellery Coolidge (Chazz Palminteri), Eddie Hall (Michael Madsen), and Arthur Relyea (Chris Penn). When a prostitute, Allison Pond (Jennifer Connelly), is found murdered, her list of men she was involved with turns up including Max Hoover whose wife, Katherine (Melanie Griffith), has no inkling of her husband's infidelity.
