Lonely Morgan Stewart (Jon Cryer) is coming home after spending seven years at boarding school. Morgan's parents—Senator Tom Morgan (Nicholas Pryor) and social climbing mother Nancy (Lynn Redgrave)—have not had time to spend with Morgan over the holidays, but Morgan believes that they have now changed their minds. Morgan is hopeful but then disappointed when he learns that the only reason he is home is to fulfill his father's campaign manager Jay Le Soto's (Paul Gleason) ploy to make Tom look like his life is family oriented. Mayhem ensues when Morgan tries to change his family's attitudes and teach his elders some lessons about life.
