These films inspired the British TV series "Man at the Top," which, in turn, inspired this film. Business executive Joe Lampton (Kenneth Haigh) has a problem: whether or not to blow the whistle on an untested drug put out by his company. Joe knows that his boss, who is also his father-in-law Lord Ackerman (Harry Andrews), will not be happy if he does. Meanwhile, Joe's marriage falls apart, and Joe enters into a love affair with Lord's wife Alex (Nanette Newman). And Joe's problems continue.
