Barbara's main opponent is her father Andrew (Robert Morley) who is a weapons manufacturer, and, to show up his daughter and her dislike of money, he donates a vast sum to the Salvation Army. Meanwhile, love enters the picture in the person of an intellectual, Adolphus Cusins (Rex Harrison), who Barbara ignores because she is too busy with her cause—until Adolphus takes her on a tour of her father's company and shows her that capitalism is good.
