A mother (Deborah Kara Unger) and her deeply disturbed 10-year-old son Phillip (Eric Lloyd) travel the highways as Mom makes ends meet by prostituting herself in cheap motels along the way. A car accident changes their routine, and mother and son move in with Pedro (Terry Kinney) who offers them a stable life. But Phillip doesn't understand a normal existence and longs for the motion of his days on the road with Mom.
