The town is run by land baron Vincent Bronson (Lee J. Cobb), and he does not want to punish those responsible. Despite the fact that the town of Sabbath's Marshal Cotton Ryan (Robert Ryan) does not agree, Maddox is not willing to compromise, and a major confrontation lies ahead.
