As a White child, Bannon was raised by Apaches, and now he holds bitterness in his heart toward them. When the Apache chief's college-educated son, Toriano (Jack Palance), leads the Apaches in bloody raids against the cavalry, the officers refuse to heed Bannon's warnings. Toriano and Bannon finally confront each other, and Bannon kills Toriano, which brings peace between the troopers and the Apaches.
