Even though it`s Not believable, it`s still a good movie! My favorite part was when Cpt. Hiller, played by Will Smith, punched the alien in the face and welcomed him to Earth! Then, there was the part when David finally figured out that the best way to get rid of them was to give them a "cold"! A virus, of all things!!!! Great stuff!

So there are levels of suspending disbelief.
Those aren`t real people living through that stuff on the screen. They`re actors. We know that. But we suspend disbelief and play along with Clark Gable dissing Vivian Leigh because otherwise we wouldn`t enjoy the movie.
But, as I say, there are levels.
Road Runner can`t really run into the picture of the train tracks that Wiley Coyote has painted on the rock, and Wiley Coyote can`t get run over by the train. We know that too, but we are ready to go further in suspending disbelief to enjoy the cartoon.
Levels.
There ain`t much that`s even vaguely plausible in Independence Day. The scriptwriters couldn`t have taken anything they wrote seriously. Certainly not the dialogue. Certainly not the plot. There really are critics out there who wanted to talk about the Jew and the Black Man saving the planet as some symbolic turn in the demographic history of the United States. Really. They really wrote that.
This is a silly movie. It has really nice special effects. Things blow up good! People say silly things and defeat bad aliens from somewhere bad. And Data has funny hair and glasses.
You go "Wow!" at the special effects and "Hee Hee" at the silly plot and the silly dialogue and eat popcorn and drink $6.00 cups of over-sweet coca cola.
That`s what this movie is for, and it does that job just fine. If you want plot, dialogue, character development . . . stay home.
Wiley Coyote draws the train tracks on the rock and Road Runner runs into the picture, down the tracks and into the tunnel.
