The "burglar" is a Pulitzer Prize winner (Samuel L. Jackson) who also just happens to be an African-American. When Tolliver realizes that residents have mistakenly called in the police, he tries to talk prisoner Amos Odell (Nicolas Cage) into the act so the police can come to the rescue.
