She recalls stories of "friends"—sociopath Lisa (Angelina Jolie), pampered Daisy (Brittany Murphy), and burn victim Polly (Elizabeth Moss)—who she encounters during her 18-month stay. Susanna works with her psychiatrist, Dr. Sonia Wick (Angelina Jolie), and is guided by nurse Valerie (Whoopie Goldberg). Susanna leaves friends behind when she reclaims her independence and moves out of the institution and on with her life. Jolie won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
