Wilson   Tough private investigator Michael Shayne (Lloyd Nolan) is preparing to marry showgirl Joanne La Mar (Mary Beth Hughes) when he becomes involved in investigating a string of theatrical murders that are all linked to the same play that had been produced 25 years earlier. All of the victims were wearing costumes from the play when their bodies were discovered. Using a souvenir program, Nolan uncovers clues leading to the murderer and solves the case. But, Joanne is fed up with the time he spends on investigations and leaves him.
