He tries to tame Dodge City and must diminish the influences of outlaw, saloon owner Jeff Surrett (Bruce Cabot) to obtain legitimacy for business interests and citizens in the town. Hatton manages to clean up Dodge City, and, in the process, wins the heart of Abbie Irving (Olivia de Havilland).
