When chauvinistic Professor Timothy Sterling (Ray Milland) and independent-minded author June Cameron (Loretta Young) are mistaken for husband and wife, June's publisher boyfriend, John (Reginald Gardiner), believes that she can write a book about marriage and make money—if she pretends to be married to Timothy. Timothy and June rent an apartment, and, at first, they cannot stand each other. But, they go along with the ruse, which results in them falling in love for real.
