General Joseph Stilwell (Robert Stack) is in command of the military protecting California's coast, and Sgt. Tree (Dan Aykroyd) is assigned the job of installing a 40mm anti-aircraft gun in homeowner Ward Douglas' (Ned Beatty) backyard.
