She has lived a life with few problems, until events take a turn when she starts fantasizing about a stranger (Joe Mantegna) and considers an affair with him. Her Oriental herbalist, Dr. Yang (Keye Luke), gives Alice herbs that, among other things, make her invisible and cause men to fall for her. Alice plunges into her make-believe "Wonderland" but ultimately comes to terms with reality.
