While Cole Armin (Randolph Scott) is coming to Albuquerque to work for his uncle John Armin (George Cleveland), his stagecoach is robbed by outlaws. Cole learns that his uncle is responsible for the robbery because, as the operator of a freight line, he is trying to drive the stagecoach line out of business. Cole leaves John and becomes a junior partner in the stagecoach line where he works for Ted Wallace (Russell Hayden). This displeases John, and a war breaks out leading to a final showdown when John and his henchman Juke Murkil (Lon Chaney Jr.) set a trap to catch Cole and Ted.
