Meanwhile, Sam's brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) has been released from jail, and, after years of sister-in-law Grace not accepting him, Tommy and Grace become friends, and he helps with the house and children. Sam has not died, and he returns home, but the brothers' roles are now reversed. Tommy is now the loving family man, and Sam is an edgy soldier who cannot connect with his family.
