He thinks he has the money when he wins at the casino, and playboy Alexander Brown (Tyrone Power) gives him a check, but the check bounces. Now, Victor forces Alexander to pretend to be a Russian prince, "Alexis Penayev," and woo a wealthy American, Laura Ridgeway (Loretta Young), so that they can use her money to pay off the debt. The courtship begins, Alexis and Laura fall in love, and then the real prince (Gregory Ratoff) makes himself known. Has Victor taken on more than he can handle?
