The fictionalized stories begin with 11-year-old music prodigy Woody (Marcus Carl Franklin) and continue with 19-year-old Arthur (Ben Whishaw) who is a poet in Greenwich Village during the 1960s. Then, there is the story about socially conscious Jack (Christian Bale) and another story involves rebel actor Robbie (Heath Ledger). Cate Blanchett shines in her story impersonating Dylan as a folk-singer during his electric rock era. Finally, there is the reclusive Billy (Richard Gere) who finds sanctuary in a tiny Missouri town that is on the verge of being turned into a superhighway. Together, the characters represent roles that Dylan played during his lifetime, and the result is an enjoyable film. Blanchett received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
