While on his mission, Carter meets Odette (Annabella) whose father (Lee J. Cobb) is a patriotic farmer and is aiding Carter by allowing him to pose as a family member. But Odette fears reprisals against her relatives and wants her family out of the conflict. As a result, she represents a threat to the success of Carter's mission.
