While the British do not own slaves, British industries profit greatly from the shipping trade that hauls thousands of slaves to the West Indies and American colonies. Through compromise, Wilberforce continues his work over the years, and his crusade is suspenseful because, despite physical disabilities, Wilberforce will not renege on his dream.
