But imagine Troy's surprise when he returns to school to find that Gabriella is the new girl! Being friends or anything more is unheard of as they are in completely opposite cliques. They decide to audition for the school musical, throwing the students of East High into turmoil. Although some enjoy the merging of cliques, the school's main theatrical talents—Sharpay and Ryan Evans (Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel)—are outraged. They will do anything in their power to keep Troy and Gabriella from "their" show.
