In fact, William is fighting schizophrenia when he meets Lynn (Amy Ryan) and her seven-year-old daughter, Kira (Abigail Breslin). The three bond, for awhile, but then Lynn packs up Kira and takes her to her father in Albany—leaving William, once again, void of human ties.
