| | Players Abundant | duane 08/28/2011 | | "Boomerang" is, to say it outright, a pure joy to watch. Eddie Murphy scores heavily, bringing his usual downtown charm and spicy humor to the role of playboy/advertising executive Marcus Graham. Halle Berry is magnificently warm and magnificently graceful as the girl who eventually inspires Marcus to clean up his horndog act. Martin Lawrence and David Alan Grier make for a couple of ingratiating and open-hearted buddy/confidantes. Lela Rochon and Eartha Kitt are sexily kittenish and sexily cougar-ish as women with whom Marcus "hits it." Director Reginald Hudlin deftly keeps everything on-track and moving. Yet the film`s leading asset, its main attraction is Robin Givens`s performance as Marcus`s boss/female counterpart Jacqueline Broyer. She genuinely walks off with the picture, being both sexy and authoritative, both sultry and assertive, both seductive and strong. From her very first scene, she`s, as the saying goes, the straw that stirs the drink. On its own, "Boomerang" is a funny, sexy, intensely polished romantic/sex comedy. When Robin Givens is on-screen, however, it becomes really and truly cinematically magical. |
