Sent to live in Newark, N.J., with his mother's friend, Harriet Franklin (Whoopi Goldberg), Albert feels resentful and alone. To solve his dilemma, he invents a friend (Bogus is a happy face cartoon Albert draws); however, his invention comes to life in the form of Gerard Depardieu.
