The story revolves around a gay couple—Prior Walter (Justin Kirk) and Louis Ironson (Ben Shenkman)—and the Angel (Emma Thompson) who seems to visit Prior through hallucinatory dreams. At the same time, right-wing lawyer Roy Cohn (Al Pacino) is also dying of AIDS and is visited by the ghost of Ethel Rosenberg (Meryl Streep) who he had sent to the electric chair.
