My Father the Hero   1994         PG, 90 min. Genre: Comedy Director: Steve Miner   Cast: Gerard Depardieu, Katherine Heigl, Dalton James, Lauren Hutton, Faith Prince, Stephen Tobolowsky, Ann Hearn, Robyn Peterson, Frank Renzulli, Manny Jacobs, Emma Thompson   Divorced Andre (Gerard Depardieu), realizing that he had not spent much time with his 14-year-old daughter, Nicole (Katherine Heigl), over the years, takes her to a resort in the Caribbean. Embarrassed to be seen with him, and bitter about their past estrangement, she makes up stories about him to a handsome 16-year-old boy, Ben (Dalton James). Included in the stories are that Andre is her lover, a spy, and other assorted tales. When fellow vacationers give him a cold shoulder, he is told by Nicole what she has done. He even goes along with the ruse. This is a remake of the French film "Mon Pere, Ce Heros," ("My Father the Hero") also starring Depardieu but not nearly as good as the original.
