Her estranged mother (Jane Alexander) arrives and takes Gemma to Fort Worth for the summer. While there, Gemma meets mentally-challenged Rory (Rob Lowe), with whom she spends much time. Meanwhile, the deeply religious Gemma and her promiscuous mother head for a confrontation.
