The guests—a British rock band including her boyfriend, Ian (Allessandro Nivola), who is the band's young lead singer—partake in more than a few pot and poolside parties. When Jane's son Sam (Christian Bale) and wife Alex (Kate Beckinsale)—both recent graduates of Harvard Medical School—arrive for a visit, Sam is disturbed by his mother's lifestyle, but Alex is intrigued by this unfamiliar environment.
