This is the first in a series of nine Dr. Kildare movies. All films star Lew Ayres as the title character and Lionel Barrymore as Dr. Gillespie, his mentor. The setting is Blair General Hospital. In this episode, Dr. Kildare, upon graduation, decides not to join his father's practice in a small town; rather, he chooses a large hospital in NYC. He gets in trouble right away when he is blamed for the death of an important politician. The wheel-chair-bound Dr. Gillespie helps prove Kildare's innocence and, by story's end, becomes his mentor.
