Obsessed with gaining fame, TV personality Suzanne Stone (Nicole Kidman) is upset when her husband Larry (Matt Dillon) wants her to give up her TV career and start a family. She prepares a documentary, "Teens Speak Out," through which she works with teenagers Jimmy (Joaquin Phoenix), Russell (Casey Affleck), and Lydia (Alison Folland). Then she hatches a plot: seduce Jimmy and get him to kill Larry—knowing that the tabloids will cover the story and bring her the notoriety she dreams of.
