Six years later, Katya marries the stern, yet charming, Tolyan (Vladimir Mashkov), who Katya believes to be an army officer but is a common thief. The allegory is told through the eyes of Sanya (Misha Philipchuk) who has problems coping with Tolyan (who represents the thinking of Stalin).
