Johnnie had spent the previous night in a drunken stupor and, after being conked on the head, has no memories of the events. Johnnie heads out of town and hides out at Grandma Rafferty's (May Robson) ranch where he finds security among the juvenile delinquents working there. Meanwhile, discredited Detective Monty Phelan (Claude Rains) does not believe that Johnnie died in the accident and, hoping to redeem himself, is on his trail.
