Kirk is presumed dead, but he is really trapped in the Nexus purgatory. Now, 78-years later, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of Enterprise-D rescue Dr. Soran (Malcolm McDowell) who, unknown to Picard, is plotting to destroy the world. When Picard realizes that Soran presents a real danger, he convinces Kirk to leave his comfort zone in purgatory and come to his aid.
