In the 19th century, Bernadette Soubirous (Jennifer Jones) believes that she sees a vision of the Virgin Mary at the Grotto Of Lourdes. Although her vision is doubted by the Church, her family, and friends, she does not falter in her claim nor her beliefs. Later, Bernadette dies, but she kept her conviction that she saw the Virgin Mary and was canonized as a Saint. The film received four Oscars, including Best Actress for Jennifer Jones. Nominations included Best Picture, Supporting Actor (Charles Bickford), two Supporting Actresses (Gladys Cooper and Anne Revere) and Director.
