Navy SEALs—assisted by the only man who ever escaped from Alcatraz, John Patrick Mason (Sean Connery)—are sent in to rescue the hostages. Also helping lead the mission is FBI chemical weapons expert Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage). The SEALs head out on their mission to break into Alcatraz, but they are ambushed.
