Sylvester Stallone as writer, director, and star pulls off another very enjoyable film with this version of Rocky Balboa's (Stallone) ups-and-downs in the boxing world. The story begins where "Rocky II" ended with Rocky taking the championship from Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Then the story jumps three years ahead. Rocky has won many matches and is now wealthy. But, problems lie ahead when he loses his title to Clubber Lang (Mr. T) who accidentally causes the death of Rocky's trainer Mickey (Burgess Meredith).

This time, his opponent is a Russian fighter (Dolph Lundgren) trained through a computer (his digital readout for his best punch is 2,000 p.s.i.–awesome!). Rocky almost meets his match in this one.

Director John G. Avildsen is back at the helm for this last (?) Rocky Balboa film. This time, Rocky Balboa is suffering brain damage caused by one too many fights. However, he is badly in need of funds–his wife Adrian (Talia Shire) is forced to go to work, and teenage son Rocky Jr. (Sage Stallone) is having problems adjusting to high school in Rocky's old, run-down neighborhood in Philadelphia. Tommy "Machine" Gunn (Tommy Morrison) asks Rocky to train him, and Rocky agrees. All goes well until Tommy leaves Rocky and signs a deal with boxing promoter George Washington Duke (Richard Gant), which leads to a street fight between Tommy and Rocky.
