The Examining Magistrate (Jean-Luis Trintignant) is appointed to look into the matter and finds that there was, indeed, a cover-up involving the police. The film is based on the 1963 killing of Gregorios Lambrakis and employs flashbacks as a tool for intrigue. "Z" won Academy Awards for Best Foreign Picture and Editing and was nominated for Best Picture and Director.
