A reporter, Ishmael Chambers (Ethan Hawke), begins his own investigation and comes up with facts that neither the defense attorney (Max von Sydow) nor the prosecutor (James Rebhorn) are bringing out. But, Chambers' own World War II prejudices also stand in the way of the truth.
