On the island of Crete, during World War II, German paratrooper Stroszek (Peter Brogle), his wife (Athina Zacharopoulou), and two other soldiers (Wolfgang Reichmann and Wolfgang von Ungern-Sternberg) are sent to guard a munitions depot. Boredom leads to Stroszek's insanity, he drives the others away, and threatens to blow up the fortress. It is now up to the German command to stop the insane renegade.
