The windmill is decorated with moving sculptures of women in various death poses. Hans meets the professor's beautiful daughter, Elfi (Scilla Gabel), who, it appears, has a rare disease. It becomes apparent that there is a connection between Elfi's disease and the sculptures.

  This remake of Fritz Lang's 1933 film doesn't have the same impact as the original. Inspector Lohmann (Gert Frobe) investigates a series of unusual crimes. It appears that Dr. Mabuse (Wolfgang Preiss), while imprisoned in an insane asylum, hypnotizes a doctor to do his nasty deeds. Lohmann is captured and tortured–a bad predicament to be sure.

In an effort to save the priceless works of art, the head of the museum (Suzanne Flon) convinces railway official and member of the French Resistance Labiche (Burt Lancaster) to delay the train's departure until after the Allied Forces arrive. Using sabotage and deception, Labiche and his colleagues try to find a way to delay the train.
