A young U.S. Navy attorney, Ltjg. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise), has virtually no courtroom experience, but he is about to learn that there is more to the legal system than plea-bargaining when he is assigned a murder case at the Marine Corps base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. LCdr. JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore) is assigned as co-counsel, and she urges Kaffee to look at the law as an exciting field in which to discover truth. Kaffee's case involves two Marines–Pfc. Downey (James Marshall) and Cpl. Dawson (Wolfgang Bodison)–who are accused of murdering a fellow Marine. Kaffee follows Galloway's instructions to look for the truth, and, under questioning, Downey and Dawson reveal that the murder was ordered by Lt. Kendrick (Kiefer Sutherland). Kendrick's senior officer Col. Nathan Jessup (Jack Nicholson) denies any knowledge of Kendrick issuing the order and wants the investigation stopped. Now, Kaffee is determined to find the proof behind the allegations even if it means going head-to-head with tough Col. Jessup. The film received four Academy Award nominations including Best Supporting Actor (Jack Nicholson) and Best Picture.

| | Anonymous 05/02/2011 | | This is an absolute must see!! Like the other reviewer mentioned, i saw this movie even before Reese Witherspoon was known. When i first saw this movie it was towards the middle and didn't quite know what i was watching. i would describe the movie to people and started asking around "what was the name of the movie" and noone knew. i kept searching the television to see when it would come back on and what could possibly be the name of the movie and nothing. till i asked someone who was a movie guru and then i finally had a chance to watch this movie from beginning to end. It was so hilarious!! especially when they were in the court room. This was truly her role in this movie.... |
| | absolute must see! | allietlc 04/07/2011 | | I saw this movie before Reese Witherspoon was really known. She played the part so well that I had to know who she was. She proved herself well in this one and I'm horrible to remember who played in what movie. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. |
