A shipyard welder, Jake Huard (James Franco) dreams of becoming a midshipman at the Naval Academy. Many doubt his ability to perform the duties of a Naval officer, but Jake does get accepted and begins his plebe year. Jake encounters problems from Lt. Cole (Tyrese Gibson) whose constant harassing upsets Jake. The solution: Jake will fight Cole in the Brigade Championship boxing match. Lessons learned in this film are a far cry from those given at the real-life Naval Academy, and the U.S. Navy declined participation in this film's preparation.
